Sunday 3 June saw the Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation (IHWO) play host to an ‘Indian style’ Queen’s Jubilee celebration.

The event, which attracted both Hindus and locals from the wider community, was held on a field next to the Wildlife Trust, off Lings Way in Northampton.

Having set up marquees and stalls early on Sunday morning, volunteers and attendees joined forces in cooking up a mouth watering selection of BBQ food – all with an Indian twist.  People also brought to the event different dishes they had prepared beforehand, which all added to the diverse buffet on offer.

In addition to the 50 or so people that attended the event, the Mayor and Mayoress of Northampton, and Councillor Nilesh Parekh, also attended.

“It was great seeing so many people brave the bad weather and turn the wet miserable day into such a happy and fun-filled event,” commented IHWO’s chairperson Neelam Aggarwal. She added, “It was important for us as British Hindus to celebrate this important milestone in the country’s royal tradition.”
