IHWO’s spectacular Diwali festival!
IHWO’s 8th annual Diwali Festival was the biggest and best ever. Over 500 people attended
the event, which ran from 1pm to 8.30pm in Northampton’s town centre. The event kicked
off with various workshops and traditional stalls. These included a “Rangoli” Indian art
workshop, “How to wear a Saree” demonstration, Dance Performances as well as Traditional
Food and Healthy Living stalls.
The event’s highlight was a Carnival Style Procession that made its way through the town
centre with hundreds of people following two colourful floats and children with bright
lanterns. This year we used a professional company – Festive Road, to help develop the
artefacts for the procession. The event climaxed with the official “Turning On” of the Diwali
Lights by the Mayor of Northampton, followed by a street “Bhangra” party. |
